Ultimate Software SaaS Hosting & Software Pricing

Hosting and Service Level Agreement

Ultimate Software customer data is housed in redundant colocation data centers in Miami, FL and Atlanta, GA. "Ping and power" is provided by Quality Technology Services (QTS)—a carrier neutral data center manager and the third largest data center provider in the U.S. QTS is a Safe Harbor and SAS 70 certified company. Ultimate Software has also striven to provide high levels of data privacy, information security and uptime assurance. In fact, in January 2011, Ultimate was recertified for ISO/IEC 27001 Certification, a global industry standard created by the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electro-technical Commission that validates organizations have demonstrated adherence to internal controls relating to an information security management system. In 2008, Ultimate was the first HR/payroll SaaS provider to achieve ISO/IEC 27001 Certification.

A SaaS Service Level Agreement (SLA) is available that guarantees a 99.9% uptime; however, the vendor would not disclose whether these guarantees were hosting environment-based, or systems availability-based. Further, the vendor would not disclose whether failure to fulfill the SLA would result in a financial credit being applied to monthly fees. Without a financial backing, the SLA guarantee may lack credibility. Unlike many SaaS providers, Ultimate Software also does not offer an online monitor to view SaaS metrics such as uptime, downtime, performance levels (latency, jitter, etc.) and service windows.

Ultimate Software Pricing

Pricing for the Ultimate Software UltiPro solution varies based upon the number of employees, functionality requirements, services added, and customer needs; although the software does operate based off a SaaS subscription-based model. As such, the vendor would not disclose any specific pricing numbers due to the many extraneous factors that have an impact on the price. Unfortunately, this salesperson-heavy process winds up being far from transparent and creates an air of sales gamesmanship and negotiation that is simply not needed.

License software purchases are no longer available which means that the SaaS model is the sole model that Ultimate offers for the UltiPro solution. However, options do still exist for the customer to host the data, which may be required for some strict regulatory industries or companies with cultural issues, but negates many operating efficiencies as compared to the true SaaS model of a vendor-hosted solution.
